Bill

Will this snazzy new service support workouts while using the Forerunner 305 Footpod?

--Bill

Kathryn Krieger

Yes, we will be supporting non-GPS activities recorded with other devices.

Janus

Thanks for the update. What about Linux support for ANT+, Garmin Connect and the FR405?

Janus

Clark Weber

The ANT Agent software used to communicate with the Forerunner 405 and send data to Garmin Connect only runs in Windows 2000/XP/Vista. It will support the Mac operating system in the Fall of 2008. We don't have any plans for Linux support at this time.

The Garmin Connect website is designed and tested to support the three major browsers -- IE, Firefox and Safari -- for Windows and Mac. While we do not officially support browsers running on Linux, the site should be functional with that OS.

SLB

Do you have any inkling of what the "Plus" features will be?

Clark Weber

SLB,

The Analyzer feature will be a "Plus" feature. It will be much more robust and configurable than the one found at MotionBased today. Over time, we will add more features to Garmin Connect Plus.

RickB

Hmmm...first experience was not a good one.

Set up my 705, installed software, did a ride, attempted to upload to Garmin Connect, and a techie-style error message box pops up...ouch.

Went back to try again, and the connect.garmin.com site was EXCRUCIATINGLY slow (much like MB can be at times).

As the saying goes, "you never get a second chance to make a first impression"...

When will I be able to see the public activities that have been uploaded? --james

Paolo

Will gamin connect still support forerunner 305? There is no mention to it...

Kathryn Krieger

Hi Jim,

Public activities are on the way.

Kathryn Krieger

Hi Paolo,

From above:

"21 May 2008 - Garmin Connect to support all of Garmin's GPS USB devices. All customers will upload to Garmin Connect. All uploads to MotionBased will cease. You will login to Garmin Connect with the same username and password you used for MotionBased. All of your old activities will have been migrated form MotionBased to Garmin Connect by our team."

kk

The MotionBased standard subscription is $95.40 per year. As my renewal is imminent I'll be paying $95.40 for $80 (2x40) worth of Garmin Connect. That's not a good deal.

Kathryn Krieger

Hi,

You do have the option of cancelling your account at MotionBased and then resubscribing once the full version of Garmin Connect is launched. We will still store all of your data and it will be available at Garmin Connect.

kk

I've just recently learned about Garmin Connect. I would like to be able to use Garmin Connect for all my activities, including those not related to GPS devices. For example, an indoor racquetball game. I currently enter that information, distance calories etc, into Training Center, but Training Center does often lose it. I would like to be able to enter basic information about those activities and have everything in one place, which I hope can be Garmin Connect. What I would want to do is add into existing fields on a new activity that I could manually create information about time, comments, distance, calories. It would not require any additional fields. Just a thought.

Tim

The same team? No offence, but I really hope the new site isn't as buggy/user unfriendly as the current one. To be honest, I am a massive fan of Garmin - the watches are best example of embedded computing, ever. How did the site end up so buggy and difficult to use?

bime

is there any particular reason why motionbased won't be supporting the forerunner 405?

Kathryn Krieger

Hi Bime,

We've never said we would not support the 405. The FR405 is currently supported on the PC on Garmin Connect. We will have Mac compatibility later this year. MotionBased will be replaced by Garmin Connect, so there is no reason to support the FR405 on MB.

I bought my Real Time GPS Tracker for teen tracking at www.gpsteentracking.com. I noticed that a similar product is at www.ggppss.com. They seem to be close in features and price. I bought mine to monitor my teens driving speeds. They are also good for monitoring the whereabouts of a teens vehicle via a home computer....how cool. There seems to be several teen gps sites arount. The one at www.teenlocating.com has a Real Time auto gps that is only 15.00 per month. Quite reasonable I think.

Any update on when Garmin Connect and ANT Agent will be supported on MAC? Frustrating that only update I find is fall 08 or late 08. This is keeping me from using GC at all. Home computer is a MAC and work computer is locked down and will not allow installation of any software.

Zack

Is the software for the forerunner 405 available for Mac yet??

Laurent Dominique

Kathryn Krieger

We just made the update for ANT support for the Mac:

Stephan Robitaille

Any idea when Garmin connect will support forerunner 305? It's been a while...

Rich

Exactly, Stephan. Buy a Suunto or Polar or any other competitor. I'm selling my Garmin and giving up. The company is completely untrustworthy.
