UPDATE 5 March 2009: We have posted an update to the Garmin Connect Status Page. We are very sorry that we missed this latest deadline and we hesitate to give further updates with promises of release dates. We realize that we have not handled the updates properly and we are sorry for missed release dates and sloppy updates. You the customer deserve better. We do hope to provide better with the migration and release planned for mid-April. Thank you for bearing with us, and we hope you accept our apologies.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You've waited a long time. And, for the most part, you've been really patient. So here it is, the official count down to the Garmin Connect release dates.
26 February 2008 - Garmin Connect released for use with the new Edge series. The new Edge will be in the hands of customers sometime this weekend. Three days ago we opened up support for the Edge 605 and 705. Edge 605 & 705 users will be able to upload to Garmin Connect after recording their first activity. Those with the new Edge will also be able to upload to MotionBased. You are more than welcome to upload to both sites, just keep in mind that you'll duplicate activities to manage once the final migration of MotionBased to Garmin Connect takes place in the coming months.
9 April 2008 - Garmin Connect to support the new Forerunner 405. The next phase of Garmin Connect support will include the new Forerunner 405. Those using this device will only be able to upload to Garmin Connect; MotionBased will NOT support the FR405. Mac users will also need to wait a little longer for Garmin Connect support with their 405's. The Forerunner 405 uses the ANT Agent for uploads. Mac support for the ANT Agent is scheduled for late 2008.
21 May 2008 - Garmin Connect to support all of Garmin's GPS USB devices. All customers will upload to Garmin Connect. All uploads to MotionBased will cease. You will login to Garmin Connect with the same username and password you used for MotionBased. All of your old activities will have been migrated form MotionBased to Garmin Connect by our team.
Migration of MotionBased to Garmin Connect
- We migrate all of your history to the new site; you need to do nothing.
- Login to Garmin Connect with the same username and password you've used with MotionBased.
- All MB links will be redirected to Garmin Connect.
- All MB Viewports will be redirected to Garmin Connect.
- Garmin Connect will support all Garmin Fitness devices, most handheld USB devices, and all ANT Agent devices (with the exception of the ANT Agent on the Mac until late 2008).
Subscriptions
- We will remove the "Most recent 10 activities" and open up your entire history. All customers will have access to their entire history.
- Garmin Connect Plus will be offered for those customers wanting access to premium features (features TBD).
- The annual subscription for Garmin Connect Plus will be US$40.00. We will not offer a monthly subscription.
- For MotionBased subscribers with an Annual Standard Subscription (not monthly), we will convert your account to Garmin Connect Plus and extend your subscription for one year past the expiration date of your current account for FREE.
It's getting a bit that way isn't it Rich.
Not even giving us news on why its not coming... or when (if?) its coming for the 305 anymore.
So close to the new release date for other devices and no update. I would think that if there's 4 weeks of data transfer just before releasing Garmin would know when that will finish by now.
What's the over/under on them missing the deadline by a year? I'm calling Investor Relations later today for an explanation.
I'm confused. I've got a Forerunner 305 and want to upload my data to a decent dashboard.
The Garmin Training Centre is rubbish.
Can I use Garmin Connect?
I presume i won't have to pay? I've no intention of paying for something so elementary - this is isn't an extra!! If I have to pay I'm going to cut my losses switch eleswhere........
Hi Steve,
You will still need to upload to MotionBased for a little while. Once the migration is complete we will support all of Garmin's fitness devices. As the last update stated we are looking at late March of early April.
Still no support for the 305 - we are now in late April 2009!!!! - Surely, since MB can support this device, and Connect is based on MB, then this CANNOT be rocket science. With so mant good competitors to Garmin in the HRM/GPS market at the moment, surely looking after existing customers must be paramount! Any ideas on a rollout date? Has all development on Connect ceased?
There has to be some corporate reason for the 305 not being allowed to connect through garmin connect. Honestly, the output of the tcx file from the 405 vs the 305 differs by data in two fields the format is verbatim.... and seeing as how the web driver exports the tcx they had to put in code that blocked uploads from devices where 717 and forerunner305 occurs. My guess from the negative reviews and feedback on the 405 from a surprising amount of people that they're dragging their feet hoping that the interface will drive sales... or perhaps the servers aren't ready to support the load that the 305 would entail... Can't really be sure, but if practices like this continue I'm sure lots of people will eventually tire of it.
I hope the guys at Garmin are reading this because I think it's important they see how many unhappy customers they have.
I'm starting to think about replacing my 305, it's not even that old but the sheer fact that getting data out of the thing and into some kind of online goal management system or dashboard is so hard is just a big show stopper for me, this is silly, I'm angry to find out from others on here that actually there's very little difference in the data that gets exported. I'd even be happy to pay a few quid for it if it was really good!
I'm sorry but motionbased is terrible, and it doesnt even support workouts done without GPS? (Running or cycling indoors for example) these are staple parts of my training during the winter months and I can't afford to not be able to look at my workout data, sorry Garmin, I think you've really lost the plot!
Needless to say I won't be replacing it with a garmin device, once bitten.......
I have now given up on ever seeing support for the 305. Technical issues cannot be the basis for more than a years worth of delay when the differences between 305/405 file formats are so slight.
I can only conclude this is a cynical policy move to force people to upgrade.
If/when my 305 dies I hope there will be a viable alternative to Garmin so I can support a company that is willing to support its existing customers.
