UPDATE 5 March 2009: We have posted an update to the Garmin Connect Status Page. We are very sorry that we missed this latest deadline and we hesitate to give further updates with promises of release dates. We realize that we have not handled the updates properly and we are sorry for missed release dates and sloppy updates. You the customer deserve better. We do hope to provide better with the migration and release planned for mid-April. Thank you for bearing with us, and we hope you accept our apologies.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The much anticipated release migrating MotionBased to Garmin Connect is taking longer than anticipated. The release is scheduled for late August/early September 2008. We know that this set back is very frustrating, but this time is necessary to bring you the best features and the fastest service possible. We want to thank all of you for your patience while we focus on this effort.
More details can be found on the Garmin Connect Status Page.
Bummer about the delay. One suggestion I had for a feature, which may or may not be planned, is to add more bloggy interactiveness. I think it would be great to be able to leave comments on other people's uploaded activities, and also to have a view counter for each activity.
Ditto both of Bryce's comments. I was so looking forward to getting my 205 onto Connect next week! But as a software developer, I get that you want to do it right, and I'm sure you have big tasks ahead of you. I have peeked around at some friends' activities from the 405 on Connect, and the UI looks great.
I will again put in a feature plea for more privacy levels than just Public/Private. I really think there is a good case for people who would only want to make time totals (pace, laps, distance) Public and have specific location data either private or shared with named friends. Would be glad to discuss! ;-)
Hi guys,
Thanks for the support. And yes, we are planning on adding Community features down the road. I'm not sure when we'll be adding these, but they are on the list.
Hey MB guys,
take the time you need - I'd rather wait a little longer having a working MB for my 305 than have a buggy Garmin Connect and no more MB.
Looking forward to the new version - hope it meets the high standards you set with MB. :-)
Hi,
What would also be nice is a way to compare two or more runs so you can see if your fitness is progressing.
I can't tell you how disappointed I am about this news. I've been battling with the MotionBased website, a hopeless bit of hardware (the USB and brass contacts which works intermittently) and a customer service team which seems quite relaxed about the regular downtime, timeouts, database errors and so on.
It regularly takes me longer to post my data to the MotionBased website - connect, device not found, polish the contacts, try again, device not found, polish the contacts, upload in progress, spinning egg timer, check back later, etc, etc, etc, - than it does to complete the training run!
As a paying subscriber, I've been extremely unhappy. I'd planned to purchase a 405, but after my experience over the last twelve months, I'm now checking out Suunto products.
Couldn't agree more with Kieron's comments. Frankly it is embarrassing that a company of Garmin's stature can't put the resources and product planning infrastructure together to produce reasonably predictable releases of an essential web service. I'm skeptical of grand plans for Connect because all I've been given is tiny snippets of "wait and see" for nearly a year. In the meantime, valuable, easy-to-fix usability problems with MB are not addressed.
How many of you wonder why we have to refresh the browser to see the activities we've just uploaded. And then if you want to work efficiently with more than TWO you have click a box and refresh again. Two wasted refreshes every time you use the service and the UI never remembers anything in the way of preferences. (Ironic that this comment UI has a checkbox to remember personal info) Even after the activities have tediously been added with no intelligent defaulting, MB renders a useless confirmation page rather than the actual digest we want to see.
Unless MB has the most unwieldy architecture behind the scenes this interaction sequence, one we all go through every time we use the service, could be streamlined in a few days. My worst nightmare is to finally have support for the Edge 305 on Connect only to discover the upload functionality behaves in the same inefficient way.
I have called customer support and they were able to help once, but now I seem to be beyond them.
I keep getting dashboardActivityTypeDropDown.store.getById(value)
Error message when I log into Garmin Connect.
And my workouts from the Garmin don't show on Garmin Connect, even when I force send.
Is this an issue with Garmin Connect? My specific device? Some part of the data being transmitted? Any suggestions on solutions. I love the technology, and am bummed it stopped working all of a sudden - don't want to have to give it a negative review.
