UPDATE 10 MARCH 2009: In case you were wondering, the ANT Agent is compatible on the Mac. The only limitation is sending Courses and Workouts from Garmin Connect to the FR405. This is also a limitation on the PC.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi all, with different updates being spread across the Internets from non-Garmin folk . . . this is the latest official information we have:
Mac support for the ANT Agent is now projected for the first quarter of 2009. We are very sorry for this unexpected delay. Unfortunately, a hardware provider was delayed with the shipment of key elements necessary for the implementation of the Agent.
Thanks for your patience.
The Garmin Connect Team
Previous poster didn't get it. We can't even connect our device to the Mac with the ANT stick, THAT'S the real problem.
Between this and Garmin Connect, I just chose a TomTom GPS unit. I won't support any Garmin product ever again. The company should be ashamed of itself.
Christmas is coming. I was going to buy a Nuvi. Now I'll stick to TomTom, and I will SURELY not say anything good about Garmin to all of my friends who are looking for a Nav device.
You really are pissing off a lot of people.
Uhm: I'm member of a car owners club with some 1500 people in it. Trust me when I say that you will loose a LOT of sales.
Has anyone had success using the ANT agent on a Mac starting up Windows XP from Boot Camp? I can get the ANT agent to find the 405, the 405 beeps and says "transferring data" but then an error occurs. I've given up on Garmin releasing an ANT agent for Mac, so before I reinvent the wheel I wondered if anyone else has had any success. If not, I guess I can go buy a useless P.O.S. $350 PC to go with my useless P.O.S. $350 watch.
The ANT agent works fine on Windows XP . It's the only reason that windows is on my mac.
I have the error message also, but if I wait a few minutes it syncs again, and then it works wel.
I'm running windows on my mac through Bootcamp also and the ANT agent is working well.
I am very upset because my F405 HRM doesn't work with my MAC. I will recommand all the people I know NOT TO BUY any GARMIN Products... It doesn't work & Garmin does not seem to be capable to hold any of its promises
I use my office PC to upload the data to Garmin Connect, then I can view the data, and add notes to it, from my Mac at home. If you can't do what I am doing, a possible workaround is to have a friend let you upload your data from their PC, and then just have them uninstall the Garmin ANT Agent software when Mac support for ANT becomes available. In case it is not obvious, it is much more visually pleasing to view all your workout data from the Garmin Website than on the desktop software, which is never as good as what you get on the website these days. Your viewing and sharing can all be done by Mac if you wish.
Despite 2 months of moaning messages on this board, I note that Garmin have not made a single reply. I, like many others bought the F405 based on the news of a software release for the ANT agent in Fall 2008. The Garmin website states release in January 2009. I would like to see Garmin tell us the truth rather than seek a lawyers advise about false advertising and sue Garmin for the cost of purchasing Bootcamp (which I do not want on my Macs). Garmin, come clean so us Mac users really know where we stand.
My main computer is a Mac and i would love to use this system for my forerunner 405. I want to track my progress for upcoming track season and would love to compare my results Please make it mac compatible 1st quarter. thank you.
January is almost over ... i think we are soon going to see a Q2 2009 release :(
I really hope not because this is getting ridiculous. One year and i still can't use my device to its full potential! Every time the memory gets filled up I have to erase my old runs - so much for historical data.
if garmin has any conscience or customer service they should reply to these posts..shouldn't they?
1) MAC support for ant agent is lacking. I bought a 50 because ant agent support was promised soon
2) I am disappointed to find that both training center and the web stuff are poor compared to sporttracks and ascent which seem to do so much better
Hi all,
The Mac ANT Agent is very close to being released. We've been testing it thoroughly and plan to make it available to the public on February 9.
Thank you for your patience.
Be still my beating heart........
After 12 months and a fair bit of lost history from my 405, Garmin please deliver the goods this time.
Soooooooooo disappointing. First and last Garmin product for me.
Posted by: amy | February 04, 2009 at 09:47 PM
I hope they deliver on this - the last time I contacted Garmin support, they suggested I install Windows on my Mac via bootcamp - like, sure, if Garmin want to provide me with a free version of windows for this purpose, I might *consider* soiling my Mac...it's really taking the p*ss that they would even suggest that a Mac user would go down this route...shame. because I love my 405, and I really believed in Garmin as a product technology leader...they should have had Mac support in place from release day 1 of the Forerunner 405...
I hope they truly follow through this time and don't put it off again until the next quarter. Very sad that after a year my wife and I still aren't able to fully use our watches. Great watch, terrible follow through by Garmin.
I have my fingers crossed...
Posted by: Jeff | February 09, 2009 at 03:56 AM
Too early, Jeff...as I type, it's 13.36 GMT)...HQ is in Kansas, so -6 hours vs UK...they won't even be in the office yet... :o)
We'll it's nearly 9am Kansas time. Will kk to make an announcement on here or do we just wait for the magic words to appear on the Garmin Connect - Getting Started web page??!!
As they say on the Garmin Company home page -
"At Garmin, you never know how the next great idea will be born. But you know it’s coming soon." .....!
I just stumbled on this forum while googling for an update on mac compatibility. I absolutely have to buy a watch this week, should I hold out for the MAC support or go with another company?
Posted by: KB | February 09, 2009 at 09:50 AM
This 405 has been collecting dust for a few months now over here... they better release this thing today, or very very soon, or it's going up for auction on eBay. Last thing I want to do is install Windows on my Mac just to run the ANT agent... how ridiculous!
